A number of companies from around the world have recently come out with a full line of wearable lifestyle devices include FitBit’s brand new Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband. The Flex Wristband comes with a number of unique and useful options for those that would like to keep a close eye on their activities during both the day and at night. Here is a closer look at the Flex Wristband as well as how it holds up against alternative devices.
The Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband has been designed to carefully track and chart a number of movements throughout the day as well as while the wearer is sleeping. It achieves this via an altimeter, step counter, accelerometer, and a number of other instruments that gauge one’s level of activity. This includes the amount of steps that they have taken per day, the distance they have traveled, how restless they are during the night, and how many stairs that they have climbed. The hardware is all housed in a slim, snap-on device that closely resembles a watch. The Flex automatically defaults to display the time on the OLED screen, but basic information can be quickly scanned on the watch itself. Each flex comes with two band sizes and a number of notches to fit any size wrist.
The true purpose of the information that the Flex gathers is the Bluetooth connection that wirelessly connects the device to one’s smartphone, tablet PC, or their computer. This information is stored automatically when coming within a short distance of a designated device and can then be displayed directly through the software or online. Before wearing the Flex, users can first input all of their health information along with daily and long-term goals.
Operating the Flex is simple with all controls being carried out with a series of taps on the sensor. In order to get a readout, users simply tap the sensor. Before going to sleep, the screen is tapped quickly for 2 to 3 seconds in order for the device to begin monitoring one’s sleep patterns. During the night, it shows how restless the individual is or even how many times they get out of bed. Upon waking up, the sensor is tapped again and it will track movement and steps once more.
Along with all of the hardware and software features within the Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband, there are also outside features that have been designed to help wearers live a healthier lifestyle. All information can automatically be uploaded to a number of websites that help users set goals or even provide feedback for their progress or their daily routines.

I have the fitbit scale and love it. My next purchase is the band, together with the app they work to tell you how much activity you need to lose.
