Getting Ready for Fall
For as long as I can remember, fall has been my favorite time of year. I love the changing of the leaves. I love the cooler weather. Especially after the sweltering summer here in...
Volunteering has always been a huge part of my life. I was raised in a family where we volunteered on a regular basis and I grew up really understanding the importance of giving back, as well as knowing what type of impact my volunteering can have on the community.
As an adult, I volunteer regularly. I belong to an organization founded on the concept of giving back, plus I am constantly finding other ways to help those in need.
GETTING MY INVOLVED IN VOLUNTEERING
Once I became a parent, I was determined to find a way that we could all volunteer as a family. I really wanted my children to understand why it was important to give back and how their actions can impact others.
At first, we did small things like taking our magazines and books to a local children’s hospital. Then we wanted to do more. It was my kids’ idea to keep going and do more in the way of volunteering.
GIVING BACK TO THE EARTH
Our last project a few months ago was centered around Earth Day. We got together as a group and decided to beautify the elementary school that my children attend. The kids put together the plan and the shopping list.
We decided to build benches, paint the school sign, and clean up the garden around the library. The plan was to beautify the school and in honor of Earth Day, make the school a better place. They wanted to do something that would have an impact.
On our project day, the weather was perfect and we had over 75 people show up to help with our project. We worked for over four hours. Together we painted, cleaned, and trimmed bushes. We pulled weeds, planted seeds, and built benches and birdhouses. We were able to contribute so much and the kids just loved it.
Months later, they are still talking about how they made the school a better place and are wanting to plan another day to do it all over again.
Visit the Capri Sun Facebook page and upload a picture of your kids seizing the day for a chance to win up to $2,500.
This post is sponsored by Capri Sun. My kids have loved Capri Sun since I can remember. Their current favorite is Capri Super V and that is the only juice drink they drink. They love the taste and I love that they get a combined serving of fruits and vegetables plus a good source of antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E.
I love when others get the kids involved in volunteering too! It shows that they can do so much to help others and teaches them that it makes them feel good too.
They sure do, Holly! It always makes me more aware of my community whenever we volunteer. Does the same thing for my kids.
What an awesome project! I can’t wait to get my kids volunteering 🙂
Love Capri Sun! Great post!
I LOVE that you all do so much (as a family) to volunteer and help others!
I love when I can get my kids involved. I really believe it teaches them great things for later in life.
looks like a great day! the family that volunteers together stays together! LOL
This is a great idea to do as a family. 😀
I love the idea of volunteering as a family!
One of the best mom/son nights we ever had was when my son and I volunteered together at the Ronald McDonald House.
I am HUGE on getting my kids involved in volunteering, too, especially my girls! Many high schools, now, have a graduation requirement of so many hours of community service. I think that is a wonderful idea! Get more teens involved!
I love when kids are involved in volunteering. I think it is so important to teach them to give back and that things are always all about them. Awesome awesome project!
It’s important to me to show my son how to get involved early so I love how involved you guys are!
LOVE IT!!! I so need to find more volunteer opportunities in our new area for families!!
How wonderful that your family spent so much time giving back. We need to do something like this as a family too. Thanks for the inspiration!
What a great cause! My oldest daughter helps with the gardening – hopefully I can fine a picture that captures it!
I love teaching my kids about giving back too! Volunteering in the community is so important!
Fantastic sharing this with your children… it is a very important message to give them, and a great family activity! 🙂
It’s great that you are making volunteering a family affair. I plan to get my family working with Cheerful Givers. They make birthday gift bags for kids in shelters and who are otherwise in need.
