Coffee machines get dirty easily. Used often, with harsh water, the system can change the taste of the coffee, and also damage the machine. A thorough cleaning of the Keurig machine should be performed once a month. Although some users do this less often, getting into a routine of cleaning regularly is better, since it does not allow the build-up of deposits which may affect the performance of the machine. Making this part of the weekly cleaning routine, the machine can last a very long time and will be worth the extra effort of the user. We hope that you enjoy this How to Clean a Keurig Coffee Maker post.
You will need hot soapy water, and lots of it, together with the ability to rinse in clean water. Although elements can often be washed in a dishwasher, these can easily be cleaned in water and put back in place without the need to resort to machine washing.

The machine needs to be taken apart for cleaning. Always unplug the machine for the cleaning process. Take out the drip tray. This is easy to remove and slides out of the slot, and is one part that can be machine washed, but as stated above, for quick cleaning will be cleaned adequately in hot soapy water, followed by a rinse. Remove the K-cup holder and funnel and place this into the hot water for cleaning. Take off the water reservoir. This part of the machine is too fragile to wash in a machine, as the lid will be damaged. Place this in the hot water.
Use a washing-up brush to thoroughly clean all of the Keurig elements, and then place them in clean water to rinse thoroughly. Dry all items. The outside of the machine will get stained. Wipe all surfaces with a warm cloth that is only slightly damp. The outside of the machine is prone to splashes, and these should be removed pretty easily. Clean the chord, and back of the machine.
Often coffee machines get clogged up with scale. To remove the scale and descale, place all the dried elements of the machine back together again, and fill the water reservoir with white vinegar or a solution specifically made for descaling coffee makers. Make sure the whole machine is dry and plug it back in again. Place a cup in the receiving position. Run the vinegar or descaling agent through the coffee maker. Carry on filling cups until the reservoir is empty. Descaling should be done every few months for optimal coffee taste.
To rinse away the taste of vinegar, fill the container with fresh water and brew three times. Fortunately, this process only needs to be done every three months or so, so your cup of coffee should taste fresh and vinegar-free.
Keeping the Keurig coffee maker in great condition means that each cup of coffee brewed is done so in the same manner as when the machine was new. The Keurig coffee machine is a good investment, and with the right choice of coffee, and regular cleaning, will easily outlive its guarantee and go on to give great coffee over an extended period. We hope that you are inspired by this How to Clean a Keurig Coffee Maker post. Happy cleaning!
