Best Way to Create A Timeline for Yourself
A personal timeline is a way of organizing and visualizing the events of your life. To create a personal timeline, you list the critical events in your life and then arrange them chronologically. The...
It’s no secret that we love board games… with over 600 games in our collection, however, it's tough to make a splash when being added to the wall. Devious Weasel Games found their way into our hearts with their unique art style, and overall intriguing game concepts.
We wanted to start off with the game that introduced us to Devious Weasel which is Cosmic Frog. In Cosmic Frog players will be in control of a two mile tall creature resembling a frog working to gather terrain from the Shards of Aeth in an attempt to reconstruct the world of Aeth.
Through the course of the game you will be harvesting land which you will store in your gullet. Once your gullet is full of these lands, you will jump back into the aether and empty the contents of your gullet into the dimensional vault. After this break, you’ll then return to harvest more lands and repeat the process until the end of the game. So let's recap… you're a 2 mile tall frog, ingesting land tiles, to then throw them up into your interdimensional vault.
While the concept might seem a little outlandish… the uniqueness of the concept is what gravitated us towards the game. I don’t think there is another game on the market where you get to play as a 2 mile tall amphibian ingesting the remains of a broken universe until you can safely dislodge them into your vault… is there?
The other aspect that drew us to Cosmic Frog is the aspect of tile drafting and placement, which you know from our previous posts is one of the quickest ways for a game to make it into our collection. The game also comes with a few highly detailed miniature frogs, because they can’t fit the 2 mile tall ones in the box. You win by having the highest valued vault so make sure to keep an eye on how you are accumulating lands throughout the game! While the theme isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, it is definitely a unique game to break out at a game night!
If you’re a fan of Cosmic Frog or are looking to expand on the base game, Devious Weasel currently offers three expansions for the game. The first being the Find Muck expansion which adds new muck lands to the game, as well as makes your frog psychic now! While Find Muck is the largest of the three expansions, the Devious Pack and Gluttony Pack both add new cards to the base game as well as Find Muck, respectively.
Shadows of Malice is a cooperative game where players will work together to unseal the Wells of Light in an attempt to prevent the shadow demon from obtaining its physical form. You’ll want to unseal these all yourself, as if the shadow demon finds even a single well, it will then take its physical form, causing you to fight and defeat it to win.
The game has so many cool aspects ranging from the map tiles, to the player boards used to store the corresponding cards needed to play. While I am a huge fan of deep detail in games, and having miniatures on the table, the Shadows of Malice minimalist art style really intrigued me, making this game a must try for the family. I also really enjoy the level of dice rolling needed to play the game as it adds an extra layer of chance to the game.
If you're a fan of trying unique board games that make you say “what is going on here” I highly suggest checking out Devious Weasel Games!
PS: If you enjoy games about frogs and are looking for a push your luck card game, Devious Weasel offers a game centered around another frog named Murray, but he’s a bit of a you know what.
