Safety is huge concern of mine. I am always worried about my children, no matter where they are or what they are doing. I cannot help it. The day that my first child was...

Is your family ready for Family Volunteer Day coming up on November 18th? I am getting mine prepared for this annual event that always takes place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Family Volunteer Day is a global day of service created to encourage families to volunteer together in support of their neighborhoods and communities — not only on the day of the event but also throughout the holiday season and every day during the year. Family Volunteer Day provides families with opportunities to experience the benefit of service to others.
Of course, any time is a great time to volunteer – but volunteering around Thanksgiving is important to me and my family. We are thankful for each other and for what we have and want to express our gratitude for these gifts by giving back to our community.
Muhammad Ali, while he was here on earth, had so many intelligent and inspirational words to say. But, one of my favorite quotes of his has to be “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” I truly believe this statement and try as much as possible to live my life by it.
In previous years, my family has done service projects at our local public schools that our children attend. We have cleaned the school walls, painted the parking lot, planted flowers, and spread mulch. There is always a project to do at schools. We love getting together with other families and friends and working together to accomplish whatever project the school requires.
This year for Family Volunteer Day, we are looking at volunteering at the Sandy Springs Welcome Center. They are in need of assistance with stocking brochures and providing information about the local community, the surrounding Atlanta metropolitan area, and the State of Georgia.
Sign up today and get your family involved in giving back to your local community on Family Volunteer Day. Sign up details and information on local service projects in your area can be found on the Family Volunteer Day website HERE. It lists more than 100 DYI projects.

I love this! It’s so important to remember to give back to our communities, especially when we’re blessed with so much.
I didn’t know this was a day, but I love that it is. I will have to volunteer with my son and husband.
Family volunteering is a great cause! Great together time as a family, and it gives kids a great appreciation of who their neighbors are and the greatness of their community.
I definitely include my kids when it comes to volunteer work or doing something to help others. It allows them to appreciate what they have and grow some compassion towards others as well.
I agree. We volunteer as a family sometimes, all throughout the year. I love that there is a specific day to recognize it, to remind us of how important it is to reach out to others.
Getting the family together to volunteer could do a lot of good. It would be awesome to work on a project together.
I love that there’s a day for families to volunteer! It’s so nice to include the kids when you’re doing volunteer work! That’s definitely something that I would recommend.
I wouldn’t mind volunteering with the whole family. I think that’s a wonderful idea and it’s going to teach the kids valuable life lessons that they can take with them as they grow up!
We don’t volunteer on a specific day but we find time throughout the year to do things. One year we volunteered in our area wetlands. Our kids enjoyed it as much as the adults.
Family Volunteer Day sounds like such a great idea! Can you imagine how awesome this world would be if ALL families took part? I can’t even begin to imagine!
It is so important to give back to our communities. We have done a lot of volunteering as a family.
This is such a great idea! I think it is so important to volunteer and to get kids volunteering at an early age. This is the perfect reminder to have my whole family get involved in helping others.
My family volunteers a ton this time of year. We participate in a food and Christmas giveaway.
My parents were great about providing volunteer opportunities when we were kids. We painted houses, fixed camp sites, etc. I need to find a family project for the 18th.
It’s great to start kids out young realizing they can make a difference. This sounds like the motivation we need to find a service project to complete as a family.
My kids always volunteered for community outreach programs. They also keep themselves updated on their school’s extra-curricular activities and sign up to participate in any program that would allow them to volunteer in feeding programs, soup kitchens, community service, caring for the elderly / disabled. I guess I did a pretty good job teaching them about compassion. We may go to the nearest assisted living facility to donate, spread some cheer with the residents and help with any tasks as needed.
I love the concept of National Volunteer day. More families should volunteer together snd be of service.
