Use Cold Water to Dry Your Nails
One of the things I hate most about painting my nails is waiting for them to dry. I am too impatient to wait half an hour for my nails to dry. Every time that I think they are fully dry, I hit them on something and caused damage to the polish because they weren't completely dry. A great hack to use is to submerge your nails into cold water and leave them there for 3 minutes, your nails will be fully dry and you will be good to go. Trust me, it works!
DIY Gel Manicure
Chipped nail polish? No problem! If you didn't already know, gel polish is great for that because it tends to last 2-3 works rather than having your typical nail polish chip within a few days. Going to get a gel manicure can be pretty expensive but the good news is that you can find a basic gel manicure kit at your local drugstore for an affordable alternative to going to the salon.
Brighten Your Nails
Have you ever painted your nails a very dark color and then once you remove it your nails have to stain and it doesn't look the greatest, especially if you want to paint your nails a lighter color next? A great way to remove this staining is to whiten your nails. You can do this by making a concoction of hot water, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda. Soak your nails in just a few minutes and you will notice a world of difference in the color of your nail.

Keep Layers Thin
It is important to use thin layers of polish as you apply them. If you put on a thick layer it is going to take a long time to dry and not look as good. Instead, do 2 or 3 very thin layers and allow them to dry completely in between each layer, you will get a much better application.
Use Vaseline
Not the greatest at staying on your nails when it comes to painting them? Use this trick to prevent spills onto your skin. Apply a layer of Vaseline all around your nail, it will act as a barrier for your nail polish and this will help to prevent the polish from getting onto your skin. Once you're finished painting you can just wipe away the Vaseline and you will have a perfect application.
How to Choose Nail Polish Colors
Dehydrate Your Nails First
Before applying polish, a great thing you could do is dehydrate your nails. Dehydrating your nails and stripping them from any oils/debris will not only prolong your polish but it will also give you a much smoother application as well. You can dehydrate your nails by wiping them with a paper towel dampened with vinegar.
Use a Sponge for an Ombre Look
If you want to do a trendy ombre nail look, get a cosmetic wedge sponge and paint the pattern you want, and then simply press that onto your nails, easy as pie.
Fix Old Nail Polishes
If you have nail polishes for a long time and they aren't regularly being used they can tend to get thick and clumpy, no need to throw that polish away! Some have used nail polish remover in the past to add to your polish and fix the consistency but this is not something you should use, they make nail polish thinners and that is what you need to use. Just a couple drops and your polish will be good as new.

Use Band-Aids for a Perfect French Tip
A lot of people have used tape in the past to get a crisp line for their French tip but using a band-aid is a better alternative. Band-Aids work better because they have a rounded edge which works better with the typical shape of our nails rather than tape that is just a straight line.
Use Cooking Oil for Setting Your Manicure
Oddly enough cooking oil, such as Pam, is a great option for setting your manicure. Spraying your nails with cooking oil will help to solidify your polish and it does prevent smudging of your polish and leading to having to redo your polish, no one wants to do that.

Get Rid of Glitter
I think it is pretty well known that getting glitter off your nails is extremely difficult. Make it simple on yourself, a great way to remove that glitter is to soak a cotton ball in polish remover and allow it to set on your nails for about 10 minutes. This will help to break up that glitter and you will be able to wipe it off much easier. These are the nail painting hacks we all need.
