One of my favorite things to do for my kids is make their lunches. Ok not really. We make them together and one day I am hoping to hand over the reigns to them completely. For now, I like doing it together and showing them how to do it right. Right meaning everything comes out exactly how they want it. Packing the Perfect Back to School Lunch is not always easy.
That lunch bag above is my daughter's favorite bag ever. It looks like a purse so she has always loved carrying it. It is several years old and she says still not ready for retirement yet. As you can see, it is a soft-sided bags which means your packaging inside matters.
“Nothing is more annoying than opening your school lunch and finding a crushed sandwich. I like the square thing because that never happens (sandwich container). The nicer it looks, the more I remember to bring it back because I know how much you hate when I throw lids away,” said my loving 11 year old daughter to me recently.
We were cleaning out the kitchen cabinets one day during a recent heatwave and trying to see what our back to school lunch options were. I knew that we needed to simplify the mess that we had in the cabinet. We had lots of lids and lots of lunch containers but nothing seemed to match. So we cleaned out our lunchbox cabinet and came up with a few tips on packing the perfect lunch:
We always make certain that all of the food is protected. No more crushed sandwiches. Pasta salad stays in tact which my son loves. We pack them with carrots, ranch, raisins, nuts, hummus, cucumbers, celery, peanut butter and more. All of your food is protected.
These Glad Disney Multipacks Star Wars are perfect for my son who knows every language they speak in the movies plus has his own light saber. The varying sizes mean that he can bring his faves like pasta salad, chicken salad or fruit.
My daughters like to use the rectangle shape for fruits one day and then vegetables the next. We packed today's lunch with green grapes and carrots.
For my youngest who was Anna from Frozen for two Halloweens in row and walks around the house singing “Let it Go” almost daily, the Glad Disney Multipacks Frozen will be a fun reminder during the middle of her school day. She will love that!
I always make certain that my kids have some of their favorites in every lunch. In fact, I let them pick what they want to put in their lunchboxes. I just help them put it all together. By having their favorites, I know that they will eat what is in their lunchbox. Favorites also mean their favorite characters.
As mentioned above, I let the kids pick what we put in their lunchboxes. They have several things that they can pick from and then we make their sandwiches based on preference for the day. They always eat what they pick out for themselves.
