Why Your Skincare Routine Isn’t Working
Do you wish your skin glowed more? Do you have a problem with acne or dry skin? Are you developing more noticeable fine lines and wrinkles? If you answer yes to any of those...
A lot of times people find that their concealers don’t work for them because they are not concealing what they need to be concealed and then they think that the concealer is a bad product, which may not always be the case. It could be possible that you are using the wrong type of concealer for that problem area. So here is a guide on what concealer you should be using!
If you have dark circles under your eyes and they are more of a purple tone, you should use a yellow based concealer. If you look at a color wheel, yellow and violet are across from one another, they “cancel” each other out, thus resulting in a neutral color. So when you put the yellow on top of a purple tone, it will neutralize it.
If you have dark circles under your eyes and they are more of a bluer tone, you should use an orange or peachy based concealer. Just like with yellow and purple, blue and orange neutralize each other, leaving you with your under eyes concealed and a flawless looking skin tone.
If you have redness due to just discoloration of your skin tone, or it may also be from a blemish of some sort, you should use a green based concealer on these types of imperfections. It is the same concept as the dark circles concealing, the green cancels out or neutralizes the redness for you.
This sums up the coloring portion of the concealer guide, usually these are the discolorations we have in our skin.
As for other tones in your skin, concealer is not necessarily the best thing for evening out those variations of skin tones; this is better done with your foundation. You wouldn’t want to put concealer on your entire face, trust me. You would be going through and buying a lot of concealer this way.
Another issue some people have with their concealers is that they are using one with enough coverage to conceal what they want. For example, if you have a really big blemish on your face, a very sheer, light coverage concealer is not going to cover that for you. You need a more full coverage concealer, these are usually a bit thicker consistency and work much better for concealing hard to cover spots.
However, concealer can be used for a couple other things as well. For example, concealers can do wonders for you when it comes to highlighting and contouring. Obviously you could buy a concealer maybe one or two shades lighter than your skin tone for highlighting, and maybe one or two shades darker than your skin tone for contouring.
We have several concealers that we use on a regular basis that also happen to be best sellers. Check them out:
You see? Maybe you’re just using the incorrect concealer! I hope this guide helps you to pick out the perfect concealer for your problem areas and makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Nice advice. For me, I really love the clinique advanced concealer, covers everthing and very well thick. It can pinpoint that acne you want to cover up.
Wow – this was super informative! I had no idea I was doing it wrong this whole time! I have very pale skin with a red tone to it and now I know exactly how to conceal my splotches!!!
This is such a great guide! I never really knew that different colors would cover different things.
This really does help a lot! I definitely am going to look like this because I need this for my own skin tone.
I am totally taking this into consideration when I go and buy concealer from now on. What great tips!
This is genius. I feel like I never know what to buy!
We were talking about my dark circles last night! I said I had them for a few days. My daughter said I have had them for years! I guess I need a purple or blue based concealer!
I do not use concealer because when I was a kid I used some kind that was so off from my skin color. I must have looked like a cupcake in the light..lol.
Yes! This is bang on. It is really important to make sure that we are using the right makeup for our skin. These are great tips.
This is great information. It is so easy to make the mistake of using the wrong concealer.
This is a really good guide! I should take a close look and see what tone my dark circles are the next time they appear!
This is the best info! I FINALLY (in my 30s) figured out concealer. Life changing!
I don’t think I’ve tried any of these. Finding a good foundation is so hard but important too. I like Clinique and Makeup-Forever HD.
This is so interesting to me! At age 31, I feel like I finally found the right concealer for my dark circles 2 months ago and am in awe every time I put it on. Really great advice here!
