The pantry is one area that can become a complete disaster if you don’t keep it well stocked and organized. I think this is because the area is often way smaller than we need it to be and there is so many things we need to fit in it, that it is often over-flowing. Not only that, but many of the things that go in the pantry are individual sizes such as granola bars and fruit snacks and there is a great variety of canned goods in most pantries as well. Here are some tips for getting your pantry under control.
Pantry Organization Made Easy
With a few bins, containers, and even an over-the-door shoe rack, you can whip your pantry into shape. This handy rack keeps small items like granola bars and fruit snacks within easy reach.
Clean Sweep
Start by sorting your pantry items into three piles: expired items for disposal, keepers, and non-expired but potentially unwanted donations.
Deep Clean
Give your pantry a thorough cleaning. Wash reusable containers, wipe down shelves and floors, and remove any adjustable shelving for a more comprehensive clean.
Label It Up
Invest in waterproof, erasable labels. This lets you easily identify contents without dedicating specific containers to specific items.
Accessibility Matters
Organize for ease of use. Place frequently used items at eye level and within reach. Avoid burying them behind other things. Store less-used items on upper shelves and larger items on lower or middle shelves. Categorize items for easy retrieval and put-back.
Keep Track of Inventory
Maintain a running list of pantry items, perhaps on a dry-erase board. This helps with meal planning, restocking essentials, and informing family members about available items.
Choose the Right Container
Use appropriate storage containers for different foods. Opt for airtight plastic or glass containers for loose baking supplies like flour. These materials protect contents from moisture, pests, and mold growth.
FIFO for Freshness
Employ the “First In, First Out” (FIFO) method. Place items nearing expiration or depletion at the front to prevent waste and avoid opening new packages while others remain unopened.
Stock Up Strategically
Dedicate a space for bulk purchases of frequently used items, like paper towels or pasta. This ensures you can take advantage of good deals without storage concerns. Tips for a Perfectly Organized Pantry

Wow! I’m impressed! This is the cutest pantry I’ve ever seen, and gives me incentive to get my pantry both organized and pretty!
Gosh how I wish my pantry looked even close to that! I have a big closet type thing and luckily it is enclosed. I would love to have one of the old fashioned walk in pantries.
