Nextbook 10.1 Detachable Windows 8.1 Tablet
Nextbook 10.1 Detachable Windows 8.1 Tablet
Due to the wealth of options in the compact/all-in-one laptop field as of late, it's tough for a single model to distinguish itself. The Nextbook 10.1” Tablet manages to stand apart from the field due to its novel configuration and its surprising power when all is said and done. At the very least, it's proof positive that the promise of a versatile and affordable 10.1″ notebook didn't die with the demise of Asus's Netbook lineup.
Intel provides quality plus the affordability I expect from buying at Walmart. This tablet is an ideal holiday gift for someone on your list.
HARDWARE AND ERGONOMICS
Underneath its skin, the Nextbook 10.1 Tablet from E Fun packs a quad-core Intel Atom Z3735G CPU clocked at 1.83GHz and 1GB of DDR3L RAM. The display is a detachable 10.1-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1280×800 that happens to double as a full-fledged tablet. While internal storage is limited to 32GB, you can bump that up by 64GB via the included microSD card slot.
On the outside, the Nextbook 10.1 boasts a micro-HDMI port, a 0.3MP front camera for video chats and a 2.0MP rear lens. The included Pogo keyboard is as sturdy as you'd expect it to be considering the fact that this is a laptop/tablet hybrid. In terms of overall heft, the Nextbook 10.1 is roughly comparable to an Asus Transformer Pad. While the included speakers are nothing to write home about, they get the job done.
SOFTWARE AND FUNCTIONALITY
The biggest reason that most consumers opt for the Nextbook 10.1 Tablet is the inclusion of the full Windows 8.1 operating system rather than Windows RT. A one-year Office 365 Personal subscription is also included, giving buyers access to productivity mainstays such as Word, Excel and Outlook. A few other notable software freebies include Barnes & Noble NOOK as well as a full 1TB of cloud storage via Microsoft's own OneDrive online file locker.
USABILITY AND PERFORMANCE
Like most tablets, the Nextbook 10.1 supports a variety of styluses as well as multi-touch finger navigation. Thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 capability, it can also be used with a variety of peripheral accessories like wireless speakers and mice. The 6000mAh internal battery should deliver at least five hours of life under normal conditions. It's particularly adept at Xbox gaming thanks to a sophisticated 3-axis G-sensor and also handles Skype calls with aplomb.
THE VALUE PROPOSITION
For people that require Windows for their daily work and play but crave a tablet experience, the Nextbook 10.1 Tablet is an excellent solution. Throw in a year of Office 365 Personal for free and you're getting a ton of value for well under $200. Considering the fact that a 32GB Surface 2 from Microsoft starts at $299.99, this little hybrid is a good compromise between build quality and overall performance.
