There is nothing more important than your health – and even when you’re busy, it’s so important to take care of yourself. In fact, if you’re a busy person, it’s even more important to look after your health so you don’t end up burning out and becoming unwell. Here are some handy hints for doing just that!
Plan things to look forward to
When you’re busy, it can be hard to see a time when you’ll be able to do something fun for yourself between your other commitments. But it’s so important to plan things to look forward to, things that align with your hobbies and you know you’ll enjoy. Whether this is a night out with friends, a concert, or trip to the spa, planning something you want to do and looking forward to it will give you a rush of dopamine – one that will be doubled when the day itself comes around. Dopamine is the feel-good chemical, so it’s important to make sure you’re getting enough of it.
No matter how busy you are, it’s vital that you have some downtime where you’re just relaxing. Curl up on the sofa with a good book or your favourite TV series, have a bubble bath, do some gardening… whatever it is that helps you relax, get it in your schedule even if it’s just for half an hour. This will help you destress, which is one of the best ways to lead a healthier life!
Get enough sleep
Sleep is important for so many reasons, and it is one of the best natural ways in which we can improve our health. Adults need on average 7-9 hours of sleep per night to reap the benefits: improved brain function, stronger muscles, lower risk of heart disease and so much more. Making sure you have somewhere comfortable to sleep, with no bright lights or other distractions, is key to ensuring you get the right amount of rest. Establishing a bedtime routine might sound like something you’d do for a toddler, but it’s important for the grown ups too: no screen time, no caffeine, and a set time if you can. You’ll wake up feeling rested and ready to take on the day, with all of your responsibilities and plans.
If you spend your life on the ‘go go go’ setting and find yourself busy all the time, whether it be through work, education, childcare or something else entirely, then you might struggle to find the time to cook and eat nutritious meals. Getting the right vitamins and healthy ingredients into our bodies is one of the best ways to stay healthy and look after ourselves, but it isn’t always easy. Setting aside some time to prepare and cook meals which you can then grab and eat when you’re in a rush is a brilliant way to ensure your body gets what it needs. It means you don’t have to rely on unhealthy fast food options, and your bank balance will thank you for that too!
Another fantastic way to look after your health on a busy schedule is to make sure you’re drinking the recommended amount of water each day. This is roughly 1.2 litres, and you can add a little bit of squash or opt for flavored water if you find yourself struggling to get enough in. Dehydration can cause mood swings and stop you from thinking clearly, so it’s really important to drink plenty of fluids when you’re busy. It also aids digestion, helps clear your skin, and gives you more energy to do what you need to do.
It can be difficult to think positive thoughts if you’re busy and feeling stressed because of it, but by telling yourself good things you put yourself in a better mood. It is said that positive thoughts breed positive results, which means that just by improving your mindset you’ll see happier outcomes and some great achievements filtering through. Studies show that positive thinking helps your mental and physical health, which are both vital!
These are just a few ways in which you can take care of your health on a busy schedule, because nothing is more important than you.
