I am really excited about the 2012 doll of the year. My daughter, Annabella has been taking gymnastics since she could pretty much walk.

She has always been a tumbler and loves doing anything gymnastics related. In fact, anything health and fitness related interests my daughter.

Annabella is also a doll lover. She loves American Girl, Barbie and pretty much any kind of doll that she can take care of. She has always had a very caring and nurturing spirit.

So when she saw the new American Girl doll for 2012, she was really speechless.

MEET MCKENNA

Meet McKenna, the 2012 Girl of the Year!

She's a determined girl who uses her strengths to turn challenges into triumphs. The McKenna doll is 18″ tall, with brilliant blue eyes that open and close.

She has long, caramel-colored hair that can be pulled high for gymnastics practice, or styled up in twists for a fancy occasion.

My daughter was so excited to get an American Girl doll that fits so closely in her life. She is just beyond thrilled that her doll is into gymnastics just like she is.

WHAT COMES IN THE BOX

The McKenna doll comes in a sporty outfit just right for flips and twists:

  • A sporty striped dress with flutter sleeves, a dropped waist, and a pleated skirt
  • Teal leggings that stretch for the splits!
  • Strappy slide-on shoes
  • Purple cotton underwear
  • A hairband, to sweep her hair back during gymnastics practice

The McKenna doll has a huggable cloth body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Includes the McKenna paperback book—an engaging story that will inspire girls to go for their goals, one day at a time.

There are even some fabulous accessories to go along with your doll. The gymnastics accessories are very similar to the ones we have for my daughter so she is already asking for these as well.

We have long had a love affair with American Girl. My daughter started with the Bitty babies and then quickly moved to the full size dolls. She has been in the American Girl fashion shows and we even took a girls trip to New York City a few years ago where all the girls brought their dolls.

I love the stories behind the dolls of the year. American really tries hard to tie each doll into something that is current, relatable and happening right now in the lives of girls everywhere.

American Girl fits perfectly into her lifestyle and really will make a great addition to the doll collection of any young girl.     I love that they explain that McKenna has a challenge at school and has to work on reading and other school work, just as hard as she has to work at gymnastics. I think that is a great lesson to young girls…that everyone has something that is a challenge to them, not to give up but to work harder for it!

    Okay we waited to see the new girl of the year and were so happy with her. My daughter is sooo in love with her bed. I think she really likes it because of all the accessories it comes with especially the tiny abridged books. The charlotte’s web is sooo adorable. And of course the hamster made it to the top of her list. She is so into animals. So I guess maybe she loves the accessories that come with the bed even more then the bed; )

    My daughter absolutely loves the mekenna doll. We suffered through a house fire and although We lost evrything, we still had everything because we all were out safely. My daughter isabella has been extremely understanding about it taking time to rebuy all her American girl things Back. When we were tring to clean up the burned mess it was really emotional. Then we came across her burned Julie doll bed hair was. Burned off and her face was a little melted but when my 6 yr old looked up @ me with the saddest eyes ever and said momma she will work until you and Daddy can buy me new ones. Im Just happy to have one even burned because a lot of girls dont ever get any @ all. Talk about pulling your heart strings. Then @ Christmas we ask the one she wanted to replace first. She told me her burnt Julie doll was o.k for her now that she would get some little girl one that has never had the. Chance to get a American girl doll. She has. So touched me with hef thoughtfulness. I feel she deserves something special for that. She sais she thought the doll for 2012 was so beautiful and loves the thought of gymnastics. She said one day momma I would loveto have her. Her favorite accesories was of course the bed was the way coolest, mckennas preformance outfit she really loved, and she so funny she really liked the cast for a brken leg but she told me if she could. Ever get those other things that the bed was so expencive she could take a little piece of tolit tissue and make the cast for mckennas leg. God love her,what a child. She did get a n ew julie and kit kitrige for christmas. After she loved the burned julie just like she was as beautiful as the day she got her brand new I realized she really looks at ppls insides more than there outsides. To me that deserves reconition. Oh isabella also has@a tutor on tuesdays so actualy I think it made her feel better that cool, beautiful mckenna has a tutor also. This just touched me so much I hope it does someone else. My llittle isabella loves you no matter what you look like even if you have been through a fire. And she wants the less fortuinate to have a american girl doll before she realy wants some of hers replaced. She said she will wait on hers as long as need be. We will have to spend a lot to replace the ones she had and was so close with I don’t think we will have enough to buy mckenna and I KNOW the bed is out of the question. But to me isabella is a good hearted true american girl. Thanks for your time and keep us in your thoughts as we go through this tough time in our family. Thank you again.

    I love her school outfit with the rain gear! Also both of my girls are into
    Gymnastics and would love this doll! My oldest struggled with reading in the past and this doll seems very relatable to today’s youth. I am going to need two of these anyway so winning one would be great 🙂

    One of the accessories that me and my daughter absoloutely love, is the loft bed. We think its funny because my daughter is getting a new room this year and shes really wanted a loft bed, so this has really just made her want one so much more. I also think that the loft bd is a reat accessory because there are so many cute items that come with it!

    One of the things that i have learnt about Mckenna is that her tutour who helps her get back on track with school work is acctually disabled, i think that this is great because it shows kids that if someones disabled it dosnt mean there different

    Hi. one thing I learned about McKenna is that she can’t keep up with her grade’s reading level, so she has to get extra help at school and that changes her life. One accessory I want is McKenna’s loft bed. I want the loft bed and the doll because it all equals around $330.00, and I have to save up for every American Girl praduct because it is so high priced and if my parents buy one for me they have to buy one for my sister and it is not fair for her even if i did buy her the Lanie doll.     My daughter Betsy LOVES the American Girl book series! Unfortunately the dolls are a little too expensive for us to buy her. For Christmas we bought her a year subscription to the American Girl Magazine and she received her first issue this week! She was over the moon, and brings it with her everywhere! Of course there’s an article in the magazine about the fabulous new Girl of the Year, McKenna! Betsy immediately said that McKenna looks just like her, with her beautiful long caramel colored hair, & pretty gym outfits! So ofcourse Betsy now wants both Mckenna and her new book! 🙂 I’m thankful that my Betsy loves to read, and I know one of the reasons she identifies with Mckenna is because at first my Betsy had difficulty reading as well. A few of the mean kids in her class started making fun of her when she’d mispronounce words, which just made her insecurity worse. It also started a slight stutter when she was the center of attention. We knew we’d have to start really working on Betsy’s reading, so I started tutoring her myself at home. That did wonders, and Betsy began to love books again! But her insecurity caused by the teasing at school, had to be addressed. Our church runs a kids fitness program on Wednesday nights, so we started taking Betsy to them. She immediately fell inlove with learning various exercises, and feeling healthy! So my favorite parts of Mckenna’s story, are her love of gymnastics and the fact that she uses a tutor to help her find her love of reading!

    The accessory that me & Betsy thought was super cool, is McKenna’s cast! When my Betsy saw that, she was amazed that such a beautiful doll came with a cast as an accessory! I thought it was ingenious of American Girl to do that, because their dolls are already so lifelike, the cast only adds to the story of Mckenna and bringing her to life!

    From the American Girl website I learned that McKenna has trouble inn school, so she is assigned a tutor. At first she is embarrassed that she needs a tutor, but she gets to know her tutor Josie really well, and they become good friends.

    I really like that McKenna has a challenge that so many girls are faced with. She’s really into sports and gets injured, but doesn’t allow that to defeat her. I know a lot of girls who can relate to that, even if they aren’t athletic. It’s a positive message.

    Mckenna is a gymnastic lover but Fourth grade is not the thing that she loves to.she’s scared to tell her friends but she eventally does and it’s not so easy.

    My kid, Anna, loves the new Mckenna, beacause it reminds her of herself a tad.My daughter would love this as a surprise, included the warm up outfit, beacause we don’t have alot of many beacause of whats going on this year, and we may have to move back to are old house.

    My daughter would love this doll and the warm up outfit, as i said, for these reasons.
