COOKING WITH TECHNOLOGY
You may recall that I am doing some work with Windows Phone. I have posted a few times about how much easier my life is because of my phone. Check out my previous posts:...
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carapelli for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I was recently sent a bottle of Carapelli olive oil to try out at home. We are olive oil lovers so I was happy to participate.
I was encouraged to use the “Four S's” (Swirl, Sniff, Slurp and Swallow)when trying out the olive oil. This is when you conduct a tasting very similar to a wine, coffee, or bourbon tasting.
So we bought some amazing, freshly baked french bread and cut it up. We also used a blue cup that was sent along as well. I poured the olive oil and then covered the glass with one hand to warm it up a little.
Here is a detailed account of my experience:
1. Swirl – I swirled the olive oil around in the glass much like I do with a glass of red wine. This releases “the oil’s esters, which are the molecules that contain the aroma.”
2. Sniff – I took a big sniff of the olive oil to see what it smelled like. Olilve oil always smells somewhat earthy and strong to me. Just like olives actually. This one smelled pretty intense.
3. Slurp – This is when you take a sip along with a little bit of air. “This slurping action emulsifies the oil and helps spread it throughout your mouth.” The olive oil tasted slightly fruity and was smooth yet clingy. The scent and the taste really lingered.
4. Swallow – Then I swallowed the olive oil. The Carapelli olive oil left no aftertaste in my mouth nor did it sting my throat. It went down smoothly and tasted good.
Once we did the test, we enjoyed the olive while dipping bread into it. The flavor was even better.
