Not every legal issue requires an attorney. If you are trying to fight a speeding ticket or need to attend court for a small claim, you don’t need to hire a lawyer. However, there are many other situations like a bad divorce or a DUI violation that you may wish to chance the risk of going alone without the advice of an experienced lawyer who can help you out. Although it may not be cheap, having good legal representation can help you out in an number of bad situations and they will handle the NSW courts for you. If for some reason you don’t want to use one, there could be potential alternatives for not having an attorney present- such as lost claims or worse, jail time!
Every legal situation is different and there are times where it would be beneficial to have a lawyer at your side. Why? Here are my top reasons you should hire a lawyer.
If you have a criminal case on your hands, it may determine whether or not you spend time behind bars, while a civil case could hurt you financially. Many civil attorneys don’t collect a dime unless they win your case. Also, you might be able to claim legal feeds as a plaintiff in a civil case, so hiring a lawyer could actually save or make you money depending on the outcome!
The majority of us are not lawyers did not attend law school or no much about the ins and outs of how to properly represent ourselves. In truth- you are not a lawyer and so you should probably have no business acting like one in various instances. Even experienced lawyers typically do not represent themselves in court! In short, they are the professionals so you should let them do their job. They also know that there is a proper way to file and filing certain legal documents. One late or incorrect filing could derail your case, delay a given legal procedure or even have your case thrown out altogether!
Many attorneys depend on an extended network of professionals to help with their clients cases. Although they do not know them personally, they can help with discovery or challenge evidence which can be beneficial to your case.
If you feel that you need to plead guilty, it’s not your only choice, even if there is evidence pointed directly at you. An attorney who understand the law will explain all your options to you and can help you avoid severe penalties even before the trial begins!
There really is no harm talking with one because many attorneys will meet with you for free during a face-to-face consultation. Not only will this give you an idea of the type of case you have, but it can help you decide if you really need to hire someone or not.

This is great advice. I am so lucky to not be in a position where I’ve needed a lawyer thus far, but who knows about the future. haha
When I needed information about immigration I went to a lawyer which eased our mind. Without a lawyer I think we would have had problems that would have taken a lot longer to figure out. I am so grateful for the advice I got from the lawyer.
Lawyers can be expensive, and you get what you pay for! Public defenders normally won’t get your charges dropped, but will try to get you the best deal that’s in your best interests. Great tips shared!
These are all great reasons to hire a lawyer. It is also good to have one when purchasing or selling a home.
Makes sense! These are great tips and something I will consider in the future if I need a lawyer!
Lawyers have a lot more training than we do. We might think we have it handled but there are far more tiny details that can really make a difference.
I can’t tell you how many times – when buying a new home or when we were in a car accident for example – having a lawyer definitely was the best thing we could have done. We were much further ahead with their expertise and they definitely protected our futures.
Lawyers are definitely important especially if you own a business. I think it’s really important to think about the benefits. These are very good reasons.
These are all definitely great reasons. It’s important to find the right lawyer too. I’ve never had to hire one, and would love to never have too, but things happen.
Good tips, I have never had to hire a lawyer other than for selling our home. I don’t know if I would know where to start if I were looking, so this is helpful.
Small matters can become huge matters if things arent done correctly. We have used a lawyer for many things or just gotten consults. After you have a relationship with one you can oftentimes have a legal secretary do some of the work for less.
